If you're looking to fly south of the border From OC this summer or in the future, you'll soon be able to get there through John Wayne Airport. Beginning Sunday, June 3, travelers will have the option to fly between Orange County and Cabo San Lucas or Mexico City through AirTrans Airways, a Southwest Airlines-owned subsidiary. Ashley Dillon, spokeswoman for Southwest Airlines, says the two destinations are expected to be a popular choice. "We chose Cabo and Mexico City because we felt we could support those flights due to a good mix of business and leisure customers," Dillon said. "We are pleased with the booking performance since we opened the service for sale in December and we expect full flights out of Orange County." Although this is the first time the County of Orange is offering international flights down south, JWA hopes to be able to cross more borders. “We do hope to see more international flights in the future,” said Jenny Wedge, airport spokeswoman. “At this time, we are pleased to offer these new flights to Mexico offered by AirTrans alongside our flights to Calgary and Vancouver in Canada, offered by WestJet.” International travelers arriving in Orange County will enter through Gate 13 and 14 at JWA and will be led downstairs to the new U.S. Customs and Agricultural Inspections facility. Do you plan on taking advantage of the new flights to Mexico?

No, it isn't a mirage – those tourists are riding camels through the desert near the popular vacation destination, Cabo San Lucas, on Mexico's Baja California peninsula. The tropical paradise sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez provides the perfect setting for a diverse range of activities that includes everything from snorkeling, surfing and whale watching to exploring local culture and partying, but tour company Cabo Adventures has added camel rides to the list of possibilities. Mexico is Out to Set the Record on Breaking World Records Sidi Amar, who was recently interviewed by Kilmeny Duchardt of Reuters, is a member of the nomadic Tuareg people of Niger in North Africa and he cares for eight dromedary camels used for tourist excursions at a ranch located along the Cabo coastline. As he explains, the camels are well-suited to living in the region. "Sonora Desert and the Sahara Desert are at the same latitude," says Amar. "The weather is same. The flora, the fauna, is the same as in Sahara Desert, so it's perfect weather for them." A couple gazes at the distant horizon, a yellow and orange sunset glowing, while they sit atop a camel on a pristine beach in a photo on the Cabo Adventures website. A photo on another website advertising the same tour shows a caravan of camels saddled with tourists, two per animal, one person on either side of the singular hump. Fashion Scene Booms in Hipster Tijuana The "Outback & Camel Safari" package deal, which costs $99 for adults and $70 for children, describes a day that involves a ride in an off-road vehicle, a guided tour, hand-made tortillas, beans and salsas, sampling Tequila, and of course, a camel ride on the beach. It sounds like a fun experience and one that I'd be willing to try – but given that a tourist interviewed describes riding a camel as "almost like being on sea,” skipping the Tequila might be a good idea if one wants to avoid becoming camel-sick.

When the new Cigar & Spirits
Magazine decided to
profile a celebrity for their tequila issue, they needed to look no further
than the man who made, “Mas Tequila” a household term, Sammy Hagar. The Red
Rocker appears on the magazine’s cover, which should be hitting newsstands
nationwide soon.
In the 11-page spread, the Chickenfoot and ex-Van Halen singer discusses the history of his
longtime love of tequila, including the opening of his famed Cabo Wabo Cantina
in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and the success of Cabo Wabo tequila. Hagar goes
into depth about his hands-on role in building the brand.
Hagar also
discloses that he recently sold his last 20% of the company to Gruppo Campari
in order to concentrate on other projects, including making his own high-end
rum. But even without a financial stake he is still involved as the public face
of the liquor.
“They really
want to keep the heart and soul of the product and the person that made it
still part of it,” Hagar said. They’re smart to do that, they’re good people
and they know what they’re doing. So I’m completely happy with everything. I
just want to have freedom to have more creativity.”
However, the discussion wasn’t entirely about tequila.
Hagar talks about his car and wine collections, the breakup of Van Halen and
Chickenfoot. He also discussed his new airport-based restaurant chain called
Sammy’s Beach Bar & Grill, in which all of his profits go to his Hagar
Family Foundation to help poor families and families with terminally ill

Capital Economics expects the housing crisis to end this year, according to a report released Tuesday. One of the reasons: loosening credit. The analytics firm notes the average credit score required to attain a mortgage loan is 700. While this is higher than scores required prior to the crisis, it is constant with requirements one year ago.Additionally, a Fed Senior Loan Officer Survey found credit requirements in the fourth quarter were consistent with the past three quarters. However, other market indicators point not just to a stabilization of mortgage lending standards, but also a loosening of credit availability. Banks are now lending amounts up to 3.5 times borrower earnings. This is up from a low during the crisis of 3.2 times borrower earnings. Banks are also loosening loan-to-value ratios (LTV), which Capital Economics denotes “the clearest sign yet of an improvement in mortgage credit conditions.” In contrast to a low of 74 percent reached in mid-2010, banks are now lending at 82 percent LTV. While credit conditions may have loosened slightly, some potential homebuyers are still struggling with credit requirements. In fact, Capital Economics points out that in November 8 percent of contract cancellations were the result of a potential buyer not qualifying for a loan. Additionally, Capital Economics says “any improvement in credit conditions won’t be significant enough to generation actual house price gains,” and potential ramifications from the euro-zone pose a threat to future credit availability. More Americans are
expected to travel farther from home in 2012 according to a recent survey by
Travel Leaders.Of the top 20 travel destinations, 11 are in Europe, Asia and
Australia, which is up from 9 in 2011.And more than 91 percent of Travel
Leaders surveyed say clients will spend the same or more on travel in 2012 as
compared to last year. The survey is based on booking data and was conducted
from Nov. 21 to Dec. 16 using responses from 640 Travel Leaders owners,

Mid-Columbia. About 43 percent of clients are spending about the same per trip
as they did in 2011, while 44 percent are spending somewhat more, according to
the survey.“Our surveyed travel agents indicate there’s an increase in interest
and bookings for small ship cruising, off-the-beaten path travel, and
international family travel,” said Roger E. Block, CTC, president of Travel
Leaders Franchise Group, which includes travel agency locations from coast to
coast. “With these luxury-oriented segments on the rise, it’s no wonder the
overall optimism our Travel Leaders have heading into 2012 based on bookings
to-date for the upcoming year is also very high.”Travel Leaders travel agents
nationwide say Croatia is the top “up and coming” international destination in
Europe, Vietnam is tops within Asia and Panama narrowly edges out Ecuador and
Brazil among destinations in Central and South America. And more travelers are

Flights to Mexico from Orange County's John Wayne Airport will begin June 3, AirTran Airways has announced. The airline, now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest, will fly once a day in each direction to Cabo San Lucas, a popular resort on the tip of Baja California. A separate daily flight each way will serve Mexico City, the Mexican capital and largest city. The airline will operate new Boeing 737-700s on the routes. The Mexico City flight departs Orange County at 10:21 a.m. and arrives in Mexico City at 3:56 p.m. The flight from Mexico City departs at 4:46 p.m. The flight time is three hours and 35 minutes. The arrival time will change when the time changes each spring and fall. The Cabo San Lucas flight will depart at 2:18 p.m. and arrive at 5:35 p.m. The flight from Cabo will leave at 6:25 p.m. and arrive at 7:45 p.m. The flight time is two hours and 20 minutes. The discrepancy in flight times with departure and arrival times is due to time zone differences. AirTran announced an introductory fare of $109 each way to Mexico City, but a look at the AirTran website on Saturday (Dec. 17) shows that the lower fare is already sold out on the O.C.-Mexico City segment through the first week of service. The lowest price available on the O.C.-Mexico City segment was $419, just $35 less than the business class fare. The introductory airfare to Cabo San Lucas is $119 each way. The Register found the fare available in both directions as of Saturday. The fares don't include taxes and fees. For example, on the O.C.-Cabo route taxes and fees amounted to $38.24 and Cabo-O.C. has $72.19 in taxes and fees. So the minimum $238 base fare works out to a total of $347.53 All fares are available one-way only. Fares are subject to change and restrictions. For full details, go to airtran.com. Travelers can call the airline at 800-247-8726, however the airline charges a fee of $15 for reservations or changes made over the telephone. Also, unlike its parent company, AirTran charges for checked baggage - $20 for the first bag and $25 for the second. AirTran also charges $6 each way to select a seat ahead of the flight. Exit rows cost $20 each way and seats near the front of the plane cost $13 to $15 additional each way. The flights will operate out of the new Terminal C at John Wayne Airport, which is equipped with new Customs and Border Protection facilities to handle foreign arrivals. AirTran announced it would start the service last month after the Board of Supervisors approved a $300,000 annual rent discount for each foreign destination that would use the facility.
